Legislation & the S.A.F.E. Act
The bills moving through Congress right now that could end the slaughter pipeline and ban helicopter roundups for good. Track them, understand them, and demand your representatives vote yes.
S.A.F.E. Act
Save America's Forgotten Equines Act • H.R. 1661 / S. 775
Permanently prohibits the slaughter of American horses for human consumption and outlaws the export of horses across US borders to Canadian and Mexican slaughterhouses.
Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act
H.R. 3656 / Federal Companion
Mandates an immediate ban on the use of helicopters and motorized aircraft to pursue and capture wild horses, requiring humane, on-range fertility management.
The Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971
Congress unanimously declared wild horses “living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West” and protected them where they were found. The S.A.F.E. Act and the Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act restore the intent of that federal mandate — which the BLM has spent decades undermining in favor of subsidized commercial livestock grazing.
